My Story

Hi, I'm Alexander and I'm currently studying Marine Biology at the University of Exeter. Learning about Kelp at university has been fascinating, however, my relationship with kelp was not always that of love. As a child, I spent my summers in Cornwall, UK, rock pooling, harbour diving and venturing out into the water. To 10 year old me, not knowing what was lurking in the kelp and seagrass below me in the water was scary. The worst was when kelp or seaweed brushed against my leg. I tried to avoid those areas as much as possible! But as I got older, I became passionate about the sea. This led me to study marine biology and funny enough, kelp. I learned the value and importance of this plant. It serves an important role in the ocean and for us on land. I wanted to highlight this to others and thus created The Kelp Collection. By creating a platform for kelp, our communities can learn about and preserve kelp forests around the world.
